Call for Art: Material Motives
Jessica Paruch is organizing a Fiber Club* group show at the Ferndale Public Library. Material Motives seeks to showcase the diverse possibilities of fiber as an artistic medium, highlighting works that challenge traditional boundaries or celebrate the tactile and narrative qualities of textiles. No Fee. Deadline: February 28.
Call for Proposals: Detroit Design District and Boyer Campbell Building
Our venue for Environment + Microclimates is accepting proposals for new concepts to activate the space. If you have an idea for how you could envision using the Boyer Campbell Building, email ddd@methodevelop.com with the following information:
1. Your name and contact information
2. The timing of your project/proposal including dates and times when you would need access to the Boyer Campbell Building
3. The space in the Boyer Campbell Building that your project/proposal requires
4. A paragraph describing your project/proposal
Call for 2026 Revealed Emerging Artist Series - at the Sculpture Center in Cleveland. Emerging artists whose practice includes sculpture, installation, mixed and expanded media, relational aesthetics, and performance are eligible to apply. Due January 27!
Grant Opportunity: Craft Innovation Jumpstarter - $3,000 grants to support craft artists to pursue new directions or advance new ideas in their work. Due February 17.
Gather, Make + Learn
Soft Studies, Fiber Club*’s monthly program in partnership with Buffalo Prescott, continues Saturday, February 15 from 10AM-1PM. Bring a project and come cozy up.
Fashion Revolution Meetup series begins Saturday, January 25 at Neighborhood Art School and culminates in April’s Fashion Revolutionary Week 2025.
Elena Kanagy-Loux is presenting her work and research on the art of lacemaking on Tuesday, January 28, 6-7:30PM, at Cranbrook Museum of Art. This is your chance to learn from a leader in the global expansion of bobbin lacemaking!
The Catskill School of Weaving online lecture series begins January 29. Amanda Thatch has generously offered to host a group watch party in SW. If you’re interested in joining on Wednesday evenings, connect with Amanda.
Angela Zachary is teaching a needle-felted mending workshop at BORO on January 31. She shared her work at Soft Studies in January and it was so cool - she’ll teach the process AND the workshop includes supplies so you can do it on your own.

CCS Woodward Lecture Series: Thomas Murray and Kristal Hale on February 13. Thomas Murray and Kristal Hale, textile collector and textile conservator respectively, will speak on the history of Sumatran ship cloths.
Weaving Workshops with Spool and Dye Works - From beginning “tasters” to more advanced double-weave - Kit Parks is offering a range of workshops for those interested in weaving in their Core City studio beginning on February 15.
Flying Cardboard Theater’s Fun-A-Day—Third Annual!

Common Thread at the Gifts of Art Gallery in the Taubman Center at Michigan Medicine (the main UM Hospital in Ann Arbor) is up through February 28.
Warp and Weft : Technologies within Textiles opens Saturday, January 25 at The Shepherd in Detroit. Included in the wide-ranging show are Lisa Alberts and Margaret Hull, who were selected to participate from their showing at Environment + Microclimates (!), as well as Melissa Webb. Thru May 3.
Between Worlds, a one-night-only situation on Saturday, January 25, presented by Cranbrook’s BIPOC student union, includes the work of Irene Perez and others. You may recall Irene’s work from E+M (which feels excruciatingly relevant this week). 1514 Washington Blvd. Detroit, 6-9PM.
Imagined Futures, a solo presentation of Gerhardt Knodel’s new and recent work opens on February 1 at Wasserman Projects. The exhibition invites us to drift into his immersive and magical world. Gerhardt has extended an invitation to the Fiber Club* community to join the Opening Reception: Saturday, February 1, 5-8PM.
Buffalo Prescott’s Bubble Hearts event on February 8 will feature Jane Sasso’s gorgeous florals, among other fun activations.
Melissa Dettloff has work in the Michigan Printmaker show at KickstART in Farmington, up until Feb. 22!
